The Songs of Leonard Cohen
The Songs of Leonard Cohen: Production Image
Each song stripped back - desolate, naked and sensual
Thu 3rd March at 8:00pm

The most enigmatic, mysterious and sub textual songwriter the English speaking world has ever known. Leonard Cohen’s exact sense of prose, his wry humour and his courage to wrestle with the unspoken, forgiving human frailty with the brush of each line.

His recent spectacular world tour of stadium venues has been successful beyond belief but has not, with regret, exposed the solitary inner strength of the songs in their original form.
Keith James; with a lifetime reputation of performing in this exact way and an undying love of the pure song gives you a concert of this amazing material in the most intimate and sensitive way imaginable.
‘certainly the UK’s most celebrated and evocative interpreter of golden music’   The Guardian

Her passionate and loyal UK fan base recently raised almost £10000 to help her promote her album Compass, an album that has just been nominated 'Best Album' in the Songwriters Category of the Independent Music Awards 2011 and if that wasn't enough her sell out gig at St George's last year was awarded 'Top 3 gigs in the South West for 2011'. She's opened for Jools Holland, Bill Wyman and had a live session of BBC Radio 2 on the Drive Time Show and the album has even sparked someone to write a film script. Get your tickets early, this will sell out.

Beautiful stuff. BBC Radio 2 Johnnie Walker

A very very talented lady. BBC Radio 2 Bob Harris

Jane Taylor pens songs like a proper old school artist. They're not just tunes, they're classics. And then there's her voice, which steals the show completely. Warming the cockles and putting a smile on your face. Exceptional. Time Out

I will defy anyone not to leave without a CD or at least humming one of her songs. Get Rhythm.

Tom Bellamy

Having moved to Bristol from Birmingham two years ago Tom Bellamy has become a firm favourite on the thriving music scene of both cities. His insightful and poignant lyrics are often drawn from his own experieces and are a crucial part of the sound and mood he creates on stage. Whether light-hearted, confessional, or as in songs such as 'Angel Creek' darkly powerful, Tom's lyrics manage to paint a vivid picture of the scene he is describing. A born story-teller, the fusion of his words and his modern take on the folk music idiom serve as a vehicle for him to share with us the way he views the world.

Due to unforseen circumstances, Sam & Henry are unable to perform.

Wed 23rd March to Sat 26th March at 7:30pm

‘It’s a comedy with three female and six male roles, four acts, a landscape (view of a lake), lots of talk about literature, little action and 180 lbs of love.’

The latter was Chekhov’s light-hearted description of his work-in-progress to a friend in 1895. But the play dealt with a very old theme, in a new and challenging manner: it was a theme that was very close to Chekhov’s heart at that time, the struggle for personal freedom – within a particular social group, in a particular place, at a particular time.

The focus is upon the young and how their most cherished ideals, about love and work and art, are put to the test of time and experience.
