Chauntecleer and Pertelotte
By Dougie Blaxland
Fri 12th January at 8:00pm

Two actors create a multitude of comic characters including chickens, nuns, squires and farmers in this hilarious tale of a far too cocky cockerel given his comeuppance by the lovelorn Pertelotte. With language reminiscent of Chaucer mixed with the playfulness of Stanley Unwin, this is a beastly babel-fable exploring themes of sexual jealousy and revenge.

Badlands Theatre Company is a tight group of performers that have come together to share their passion for theatrical comedy. From diverse backgrounds, with different influences and styles, they aim to promote new, original short plays, and develop their own style of energetic, humorous and accessible theatre.

A fast-moving, physical comedy in which two actors play a multitude of parts, including hens, chickens, monks, nuns, squires and farmers in a story of love, sex and propagation. This is a beastly babel-fable of Chaucerian proportion. The plot centres on Chauntecleer the Cockerel's dalliance with Nell, the farmer's wife, and Pertelotte the Hen's subsequent revenge.
