Picasso at the Lapin Agile
By Steve Martin
Wed 14th November to Sat 17th November at 8:00pm

A richly comic fantasy in which Picasso and Einstein meet in a bar in 1904 before their larger fame sets in. Steve Martin said: “It's really about how exciting it is when you're on the verge of something.” What they are on the verge of is the Twentieth Century.

Steve Martin has had acclaim for roles in Roxanne, Parenthood, The Man With Two Brains, and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. In addition to his collected comic writings entitled Pure Drivel, and Picasso, he has also written a novella: New York Times bestseller Shopgirl, which was filmed in 2005.

Tickets: £8, Concs£5 Comedy

The two main characters are both on the verge of a breakthrough - Einstein is about to submit his first paper on relativity for publication and Picasso is about to paint the most important picture of his life, Les Demoiselles d'Avignion.

The play deals with themes of attraction, creativity, and ideas that didn't work as well as ideas that did. The self-important Schmendiman demonstrates the 'ideas that didn't work' category with hilarious enthusiasm and assuredness. Attraction arises with Germaine and Suzanne.
